Jared Lenow
Jared Lenow is an experienced trial attorney and former federal prosecutor whose practice focuses on white collar criminal defense and regulatory enforcement matters, internal investigations, and complex civil litigation.
Prior to joining Friedman Kaplan, Jared served for over a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. Jared was a senior member of the SDNY’s Securities & Commodities Fraud Task Force and one of its most experienced financial crimes prosecutors. He investigated and prosecuted cases involving a broad spectrum of white collar crimes, including securities fraud, cryptocurrency fraud, market manipulation, accounting fraud, insider trading, money laundering, tax fraud, and sanctions and export control violations, among others. Jared also has substantial experience with international law enforcement issues, such as extraditions, and with asset forfeiture matters.
Jared played a key role in some of the SDNY’s most significant and sensitive investigations and prosecutions, often in parallel with civil regulatory enforcement agencies such as the SEC, CFTC, and FINRA. For example, Jared was one of the principal prosecutors responsible for the criminal investigation, extradition, and prosecution of Do Kwon, co-founder and former CEO of Terraform Labs, for fraud charges relating to the $40 billion crash of the TerraUSD and LUNA cryptocurrencies. Jared also prosecuted the founder and former CEO of cyberfraud prevention startup NS8 for defrauding venture capital firms of over $100 million, and the founder and former CEO of the cryptocurrency and foreign exchange trading platform EminiFX for defrauding over 25,000 investors of almost $250 million.
During his SDNY tenure, Jared tried 14 cases to verdict, including a month-long accounting fraud trial of the CEO of a publicly traded company and a two-week insider trading and investment fraud trial. In addition to his jury trial experience, he argued over half a dozen appeals before the Second Circuit.
Jared also served for three years as a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School, where he taught a seminar on federal criminal prosecution.
Prior to his time as a federal prosecutor, Jared practiced at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, where he represented clients in government enforcement matters, patent litigation, and other complex litigation matters.
