June 4, 2025

Friedman Kaplan proudly announces that experienced trial attorney and former federal prosecutor Jared Lenow has joined the firm as a partner. He will represent clients in white collar criminal defense and regulatory enforcement matters, internal investigations, and complex civil litigation.

Jared joins the firm following more than a decade of service as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he was a senior member of the SDNY’s Securities & Commodities Fraud Task Force and one of its most experienced financial crimes prosecutors. He investigated and prosecuted cases involving a broad spectrum of white collar crimes, including securities fraud, cryptocurrency fraud, market manipulation, accounting fraud, insider trading, money laundering, tax fraud, and sanctions and export control violations, among others.

Among his notable cases, Jared was one of the principal prosecutors responsible for the criminal investigation, extradition, and prosecution of Do Kwon, co-founder and former CEO of Terraform Labs, for fraud charges relating to the $40 billion crash of the TerraUSD and LUNA cryptocurrencies. Jared also prosecuted the founder and former CEO of cyberfraud prevention startup NS8 for defrauding venture capital firms of over $100 million, and the founder and former CEO of the cryptocurrency and foreign exchange trading platform EminiFX for defrauding over 25,000 investors of almost $250 million. During his time at the SDNY, Jared tried 14 cases to verdict and argued over half a dozen appeals before the Second Circuit.

“Jared joins us following a distinguished tenure as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he led high-profile investigations and prosecutions involving insider trading, cryptocurrency-related offenses, accounting fraud, and other complex financial crimes. A highly accomplished trial lawyer, Jared brings invaluable insight and judgment to our practice. His experience and strategic mindset make him a natural fit for our team and further strengthen our ability to deliver the highest caliber representation to clients facing regulatory scrutiny, internal investigations, and criminal prosecution. We are thrilled to have Jared on board and look forward to the impact he will have on our clients and our firm.” said Mary Mulligan, co-head of the firm’s Chambers and Legal 500-recognized white collar criminal defense practice.

“Friedman Kaplan has a tremendous reputation among Southern District practitioners and in the broader New York white collar community, and I’ve been consistently impressed with the caliber of the firm’s attorneys and the sophistication of its clients,” commented Jared. “I’m incredibly excited to practice in one of the premier boutique firms alongside a wonderful group of creative, smart people who are dedicated to providing superb client service.”

Prior to his years in public service, Jared practiced at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, where he represented clients in government enforcement matters, patent litigation, and other complex litigation matters. He also completed clerkships with the Honorable Lee H. Rosenthal of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and with the Honorable Fortunato P. Benavides of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Jared is a graduate of Vanderbilt Law School and earned his undergraduate degree, with high honors, from Swarthmore College.
