Mala Ahuja Harker Recognized in Crain's 2023 Notable Women in Law List

Crain's New York Business
June 22, 2023

Friedman Kaplan partner and Management Committee member Mala Ahuja Harker was recognized by Crain’s New York Business in its 2023 Notable Women in Law list, which highlights 100 leading female lawyers in the New York City metropolitan area. In selecting its honorees, Crain’s sought to feature women lawyers “at the pinnacle of their profession whose impact radiates well beyond the clients they serve.” Among the factors assessed for inclusion were holding senior positions within law firms, performance of consequential legal or pro bono work, mentorship, promotion of inclusivity, and undertaking leadership roles in civic or philanthropic endeavors.

In addition to her active litigation and white collar criminal defense practice and service on Friedman Kaplan’s four-partner Management Committee, Mala is the firm’s representative to the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, a trustee of Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, and devotes significant time to mentoring other attorneys and championing various diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts both at the firm and within the profession more generally.

Mala was also recognized last year in Crain’s inaugural Notable Diverse Leaders in Law list, which honored lawyers from underrepresented groups who serve in senior roles at New York City law firms and have made an impact in the types of cases handled, clients won, and/or pro bono work.
