Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Erie v. Tompkins

On October 10th, FK partner the Hon. Robert S. Smith (Ret. ) participated in a panel discussion of Erie v. Tompkins at the Historical Society of the New York Courts' celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the decision.  The panel discussed Erie v. Tompkins through the years, the interplay of state and federal courts post-Erie, as well as the doctrine’s modern implications.  The program also featured rare photographs, historical artifacts, and trivia from the era of the Erie Railroad.

The panel was moderated by Hon. Albert M. Rosenblatt, and Judge Smith’s co-panelists will included Andrew Rhys Davies, a partner at Allen & Overy; Prof. Amanda Sen, Acting Assistant Professor of Lawyering at NYU Law School; and the Hon. John M. Walker, Jr., U.S. Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
