Litigation associate Kaelyn Gustafson presented at the New York State Conference of Mayors’ Women’s History Month webinar about New York’s recently passed Equal Rights Amendment, which if approved by voters, would amend the New York State Constitution to add an explicit guarantee that equal protection cannot be denied on the basis of sex. The presentation provided an overview of the substantive and procedural components of the legislation and discussed why a previously passed Equal Rights Amendment from the 1970s was not ultimately codified, how the current version compares to those of other states, and how the amendment could impact New Yorkers if adopted by voters. NYCOM Counsel Rebecca Ruscito co-presented with Kaelyn.
