Seven Associates Join Firm

Seven new associates recently joined FKSA:

Shira D. Weiner joined the firm's Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Group from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Shira graduated in 1999 from Emory University with a degree in economics. In 2002, she received her J.D. cum laude from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and also received the Dean's Merit Scholarship and the Bond Scholarship. She was managing editor of the Cardozo Law Review and is the author of Mouse-to-Mouse Resuscitation: Cybermedicine and the Need for Federal Regulation, 23 Cardozo L. Rev. 1107 (2002). Shira was an associate editor of Weil's bankruptcy publication, Reorganizing Failing Businesses - A Comprehensive Review and Analysis of Financial Restructuring and Business Reorganizations, Revised Edition (2006). In the spring of 2006 and 2007, she served as a teaching assistant in Professor Gary T. Holtzer's Business Reorganizations course at Cardozo Law School.

Steven E. Frankel joined FKSA's Litigation Group from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. Steven graduated cum laude from Yeshiva University in 2000 with a degree in economics and was named to the Dean's List. In 2004, he received his J.D. cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was senior editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. After law school, Steven served as a law clerk to The Honorable Stanley R. Chesler of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. While at Simpson Thacher, he co-authored with Jonathan K. Youngwood a chapter titled "Due Diligence as a Litigation Defense" in the Practicing Law Institute's handbook, Conducting Due Diligence 2006.

Niketh Velamoor joined FKSA's Litigation Group from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP. Niketh graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University in 2001, where he majored in economics and political science and was granted early induction into Phi Beta Kappa. In 2004, he received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was a supervising editor of the Harvard Journal on Legislation and authored Comment, Proposed Federal Rule of Appellate Procedure 32.1 to Require That Circuits Allow Citation to Unpublished Opinions, 41 Harv. J. on Legis. 561 (2004). After law school, he served as a law clerk to The Honorable Stephen C. Robinson of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Lili Zandpour joined FKSA's Litigation Group from Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. Lili graduated cum laude from the University of California, San Diego in 1999 with a B.A. in communications. In 2004, she graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law, where she was an editor of the New York University Review of Law & Social Change. She is fluent in Farsi.

Sheela V. Pai joined FKSA's Litigation Group from Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP. Sheela received a B.A. in history in 2000 from Yale College, where she was news editor of the Yale Herald. In 2005, she received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School where she served as senior editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law.

Amy Luria joined FKSA's Litigation Group from Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP. Amy graduated summa cum laude in 2002 from Barnard College, Columbia University where she received a B.A. in political science and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 2005, she received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was Chair of the Moot Court Board and Senior Editor of the Journal of Constitutional Law. After law school, she served as a law clerk to The Honorable Jaynee LaVecchia of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Amy has authorized numerous articles, including most recently Showup Identifications: A Comprehensive Overview of the Problems with Such Identifications, and a Discussion of Necessary Changes, 86 Neb. L. Rev. (forthcoming 2008), and CERCLA Contribution: An Inquiry into What Constitutes an Administrative Settlement, 84 N.D. L. Rev. (forthcoming 2008). Her other publications include The Suitability of CERCLA Liability for Municipal Pollution of Rivers, 30 Seton Hall Legis. J. 57 (2005) and An Expense Out of Control: Rule 33 Interrogatories After the Advent of Initial Disclosures and Two Proposals for Change, 9 Chap. L. Rev. 29 (2005) (with John E. Clabby).

Jennifer P. Krakowsky joined FKSA's Litigation Group from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. Jennifer received a B.A. in psychology from Columbia College in 2002, where she was on the Dean's List in all semesters. In 2006, she received her J.D. degree from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and served as Managing Editor of the Columbia Journal of European Law. She is fluent in French.
