FKSA associate Lee D. Vartan was recently awarded the New York State Bar Association's President's Pro Bono Service Award for the Ninth Judicial District. The award is given annually to an attorney in each of New York State's twelve judicial districts for "extraordinary pro bono service."

Mr. Vartan was honored for working more than 200 hours on a case brought by a Westchester County family struggling to secure a handicapped-accessible home for their disabled child from a public housing authority that lacked any apartments that were even partially handicapped-accessible. After protracted litigation in federal court in the Southern District of New York, the family successfully secured through settlement a handicapped-accessible apartment, a designated parking space, and significant monetary damages that were put into trust for their son.
